What is the importance of music? Think of your personal experience with it and with your understanding of its effects on groups of people. Does it have a...purpose?

Music is a way of communication. Two people could listen to a song and take two totally different things away from it. That's what makes music amazing. Music was sung by the slaves in the fields to communicate to each other. Music is used in churches to express devotion to a deity. Music was the anthem of rebellious youth in the 70's. For me, music is something that was always there. As a child, I had toys that would sing, and I eventually grew up to find my own taste in music. Listening to an amazing bass line, or a witty rap verse is a sensation that is almost indescribable. Listening to the right song can set the tone for the day, and helps you feel a little bit better about things. You can plug in your headphones and suddenly, all you hear is music. The cool thing about music is, nobody really knows for sure how it began. It was always there. It unites people. For instance, going to a rock concert with thousands of sweaty people screaming the lyrics and flailing their bodies as though they are possessed is almost magical. These people probably go to school or have 9 to 5 jobs, but for those few hours, they are temporarily released from the binds of society. I've joined message boards where fans of Rap, to Jazz discuss music for hours on end. I remember one person saying that Rap actually helped him with metaphors and similes in English. This is why I think music is just as important, if not more important, than any subject we learn in school. Music teaches empathy, human understanding, and truth. It gives a voice to those who otherwise wouldn't be heard. You could be failing English and then write an intelligent and insightful song, and that would be just as important as writing a paper on a novel that teaches you nothing about anything. To me, music is a way of expression that isn't hindered by society or adults; it's something that's a part of me, and will always be.

Music is what brings us all together. It is the creative aspect of life everyone can be apart of. Poetry is can be interpreted of what music can provide to people. Music is what makes the content and education of life lessons enjoyable. It's importance is that it allows people of all ages, all races, and both genders to connect off of one another. Growing up, you mature more so the music you listen to gets more technical. In my childhood, listening to music seemed amusing because of the melodies and tones it perceived me to have. At my age now, I like to focus more on the lyrical content and message the artist tries to portray throughout their music. The thing about music is the varied genres. I personally do not limit myself to one favorite genre of music because there are so many styles of music that are different emotionally. Its amazing how particular songs can make you feel some type of way. Whether it is dealing with all the emotions people have or going through the "road blocks of life". It transcends communication in that there is always a story to be told. All music is sort of life lessons on different aspects of life. Music will can be one of the only similar characteristic people can share because of the language that brings people together. It will always play an importance in my life whether I am in mourn or I am happy. I love music and I hope I can pass down the joy it creates to my children one day.

Sorry Third sentence should be *Poetry can be interpreted as only a subsection of music*

I believe that music holds the power to relieve pain, create pain, and touch something in each of us that makes us all ponder on our past experiences. If I go an entire day without listening to music, I will be very tense and stressed, but as soon as I blast some tunes in the car I immediately feel better.

I found some statistics that shows the power of music.

All kinds of music are now available to most people, 24 hours a day, at the touch of a switch.

Music is a very powerful medium. In some societies this is recognized and attempts are made to control music by those in power.

Music is powerful at the level of the social group because it facilitates communication which goes beyond words, induces shared emotional reactions and supports the development of group identity.

Music is powerful at the individual level because it can induce multiple responses – physiological, movement, mood, emotional, cognitive and behavioral.

The brain’s multiple processing of music makes it difficult to predict the particular effect of any piece of music on any individual.

Music has powerful therapeutic effects which can be achieved through listening or active music making.

Music can promote relaxation, alleviate anxiety and pain, promote appropriate behavior in vulnerable groups and enhance the quality of life of those who are beyond medical help.

Music holds importance to every human in some form. Whether it is an athlete getting in the "zone" for a game, listening to Mozart while studying because they heard that it will make them smarter, cranking up the base in your car to jam out with your friends on the way home from school or even humming a song to yourself while walking alone in the woods at night to keep your mind occupied. For me music makes a lifeless task come to life. When I crank up my "Jamies" playlist, cleaning my house seems so much more enjoyable. I am not one of those people that locks myself in my room and listens to my iPod until I feel better but I do like to listen to my favorite playlist to make the moment more entertaining and memorable.
I definitely believe that music holds a purpose. For different groups of people music can be used for worship to a specific god, entertainment for the kings and queens, or to make a movie ten times better by having an awesome soundtrack to go with it. People use music to celebrate or reminisce on life. During graduation or on birthdays music is present and hearing a certain song can bring a person back in time with all the good memories they have. Music is much more than just noise to fill a waiting room or to play in the car on the way to school, it is a tool that can unite people all over the world because that is one thing everyone can relate to.

Music is nearly impossible to explain but it is so deeply a part of us that it needs no explanation. One attempt to define music (by dictionary.com) is

"an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color."

But what does that mean? Music is something deeper than carefully constructed sound just as a painting is more than colors on a canvas. Music is a method of sharing the soul and whatever pain, joy, or questions come along with it. Where lyrics fail at expression, instruments pull to a deeper meaning. Our heads understand the words but the notes behind them are understood somewhere at our core. It is a sort of language from one soul to another that explores the depth of humanity and what is beyond it. Sometimes it is polished like a classical piano piece and sometimes it is as raw as a harmonica. But music always creates a connection that crosses time and cultures. We make or listen to music in celebration, hardships, and the dullest moments of life. We are even commanded to make music in worship of the Almighty God. So music has many purposes: to entertain, express, anchor, cry out, glorify, commune, explode. All through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.

Music is used for many different purposes. It is used in religious ceremonies and sporting events, on television and radio, and many more. It is used to convey a message, to communicate. Pop music today is made with the intent of entertaining (and ultimately making money) Even music without words is used to convey a certain feeling to the audience.

Why do people listen to music? To be entertained, to be able to listen to something that fits their mood. To get pumped and excited before a big game. Why do we have different tastes in music? Some people love pop music, and a massive amount of people buy into it, but others don't like it. Country is also a very debated form of music (But let's be honest, no one with an IQ greater than that of a shovel would want to listen to a song about a pickup truck).

I listen to music to escape from the world, so I can just lose myself in the music and not have to pay attention to all my troubles. While my problems never go away, music helps me get through all the rough patches I come across in life.

Music is what makes life more enjoyable and memorable. Music, in my opinion, serves as a way to connect with ourselves, other people, and God. Music acts as a way to reflect upon ourselves and open up. Music serves as a stress reliever, or a way to focus, or even something to take away the bordem of our day. I feel like even the music that has no words at all speaks to us and relates to us. It's like that one part of a song where it's just the beat and it's so intense it gives you chills and you don't really know what's going on around you. That's what I love about music, it connects to everyone. One example of how music serves as a connection to others is when I went to Haiti and the people of the church sang for us. No they didn't have any kind of sound system or fancy instruments, but when they sang it was so passionate and so awesome it left me completely speechless. Even though they were speaking another language and I had absolutely no idea what they were saying, the music allowed me to still feel connected with them and feel the same passion they had as they were singing. I think it's purpose at that time was to unify us all to worship God and it was pretty amazing. Music is so important to me and I don't really know what I would do without it.

It seems as though present day music is simply about popularity and experiencing that "15 minutes of fame." However, it is important to focus on how music began and what it means to people. For example, slaves sang songs while working on plantations to unite with one another and distract themselves from their harsh lives. This eventually evolved into jazz, rock, and so forth. Music is constantly changing because the values of individuals change over time as well. Frank Sinatra became popular because his simple love melodies related to the American dating habit at the time. Whereas in present day, rappers are popular because they are discussing issues that face our society today. No matter what type of artist they are, they are using music to express their inner emotions and it is these inner emotions that connect the artists to the listeners.

I go to concerts often because I love the atmosphere. Listening to hundreds of other people singing the lyrics as loud as they can and literally feeling the music in my heart because of the speakers is a unique experience that cannot be explained very well. However, it is at these moments when I truly feel unified with no just the artist, but the other fans as well. They may be strangers to me, but at that moment we're all feeling the same emotions and it makes me realize that these people are no different from me and we are all unified through the music. I believe that the slaves felt this same sense of unity while they sang their songs and focused less on their current situation and more on their relationships between their families and strangers.

i know, that I'm supposed to just talk about how important music is, and its this deep, and meaning thought process... but I'm not really getting that. Music is just something that I've always just... gotten. Its not this huge elaborate thing, like string theory to me. Music is just like art. Because the reality is, is that its not the music i like. its the creation of it. because i can never just LISTEN to a song, i have to sing with it. and when someone else creates lyrics of a poem, or a slam poem, a sermon, a song, i have to share it, because it moves ME to be motivated to create. Inside of us, all human beings have this desire to create. And that's why for me, music is simple. that's why its been around so long, can connect with so many people, in so many different languages, in so many cultures, all throughout time, because everyone just... gets it.

As the meaning of making music has evolved, the meaning of it still remains the same. Music shapes people in different ways. I believe that music holds an emotional aspect, there is always that one song you can relate to. Depending on what you are listening to, it can lift you up and make you want to dance and sing at the top of your lungs, it can raise your spirits up, get your head in the game, or it can remind you of a sad memory. Music acts as a way to "escape reality" and focus on what you are doing, a way to motivate you to run faster, or to take your mind off of things. It's the lyrics that we can relate to.

Music is used to show the intensity of a movie scene, used during the entrance of football teams for games, getting ready for school in the mornings, used for a road trip, used throughout our church service to praise God for all he has done.

Music for me in my life has made a great impact; I cannot go somewhere without listening to my favorite kind of music. But every time I think of the word music, I can hear my grandpa singing, "Swing low, sweet chariot," at my grandparents house on a hot summers day. It brings back many fond memories.

Music serves the purpose of connection. Even though, there are many different genres of music, that particular group of people are connected in this way; they can listen and enjoy the same sweet sounds, acting as a way of communication almost. Music serves the purpose of remembrance. Watching the clip from the "Piano Lesson" the other day, the four men were connected because they all knew the lyrics, and it probably brought back some memories. This is similar, for instance during slavery. They used music to not only help them through the hard days work, but used it to connect with one another.

Music has gotten me through a lot of times. It is funny to think that we can remember lyrics to a song so easily from years and years ago, but it is difficult sometimes to remember what we did just a week ago.

The importance to me regardig music is very essential. I have grown up listeing to music since I was born due to my family being very interested in the art of music very much like me. The critical factor behind it all is really what lyrics and meaning that it reflects when you listen to a particular style, song, or group. Music certainly is part of each and every persons lives but, the reason for that, and how we continue to enjoy it, all orignates from how it makes us feel and relate to it. Coming from a logical stand point of course, lyrics can be either naive or legitimate to what particular songs we like, but it still has the origins of what the music was written about. Take Christian music for example. Christians endure the gospel and worship songs that speak of Jesus's word, and it helps remind them of how their lofe should be ran, and who's in control. That's a very good example of displaying how music can make us feel better and want to make ourselves have value. The different ethnicities of people that have their music, also can be identified as cherishable because they normally dig back to roots of history or possibly standards that regard their own nature. Their music may be different than many other people, but they do enjoy it as it represents them. Slaves that had their own hymns and sang them in the past for the portrayal of their life and how they cope woth it, and what their life standards are at that time. Music is just a way to express yourself in a way that brings forth the knowledge of relatable and meaningful material. I play music and perform in front of people to show my passion towards particular songs that have a symbol of representing what I might be feeling or what is right or wrong. Music can really take part in somones life, and have that compatible connection.

Now I don't actually listen to music much, but it does hold some value for me. I grew up listening to music from Estonian and Russian cultures, so music is part of my heritage, much like in The Piano Lesson. Since I like to think of myself as a writer(maybe not a good one) I think of songs and music as a literary feature in some stories. It could also provide a background to a story or a scene in a story. Also, music is much like poetry, and even though I don't really write poetry anymore, I used to erite songs here and there. Therefore, music does serve a purpose. It defines where we've been, where we are, and what track we want to go on. It is an auditory chronicle, something that we want to sing to others to tell our story.

Music is a form of art, therefore it shares all the great qualities of arts. It is a way of communication. Music usually carried a specific emotion. When people hear the music they can feel the emotions that are underlying on the lyrics and rhymes, sometimes people can relate themselves to the emotions or the situations that are present in the music. When people do related to the emotions or the situations that are present in the music, the meaning of the music is extend to people's personal interpretations. The meaning of the music are different for each person, because people have different experiences with the same music. However, all musics have a specific theme, although people might have different feelings or experiences about the theme, it all communicates the very same theme.

Music is very important to life. It is universal, and pulls the emotional strings in life. Music connects people to each other, no matter their background, nationality, age, or even language. An example would be how anybody could listen to opera music not understanding the language you can still love it and feel the emotion the singer is trying to portray. It can save lives because if you are feeling alone you can find a song that speaks of your situation showing you that some one else has been through the same situation and it might help trigger a solution. Music does have a purpose and i think it is to connect people though words that express emotions.

Music plays a major role in my life. It can change my mood in almost an instant. Music is one of my passions. Music allows me to express feelings that I can not express myself. I have learned that music can speak to me in ways that others can't. I can be upset and music can cheer me up. But music can also put me in a somber mood. Everyone sees me everyday with my headphones on, but the reason for this is that it keeps my mind focused on school than everyone who is around me. Music is almost my scapegoat to seep rate my self from the world around me.

The importance of music is the connection it establishes among mankind. It connects people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, and social status'. The harmony and powerful lyrics of joy, sadness, love, etc. brings us all together. Another piece of its importance is that it portrays emotions that we all feel. Personally, I use music as a source of escapism. Whenever life becomes challenging I drown myself in music. Within music I am free from my fears and problems, it's soothing. The same can be said for other groups of people and musical artists. The artists' express their trials and true feelings to vent and connect with others. Unity and fellowship, I believe is the purpose for music.

Music has a different meaning for everyone. It can connect to us spiritually or emotionally. It can bring up old memories or give us a feeling I the future. Music can have an impact on us physically. For example, calming our heart rates or even like Meagan said- to get us pumped for the game. The are two parts to music: the composition and the lyrics. For some people nowadays the lyrics do not matter. They are only interested in the beat and how it plays on their emotions. But I feel the lyrics can hold so much power. They can speak to us in a time of need or help us express things we find difficult to explore. The importance of music is expression whether it be of culture, ethnicity, or emotion.

Music is a strange thing. It can hold so many different meanings to people. To some people, music may just be something to listen to other than silence. But to others, it could be the thing that saved their life. For me personally, music is an escape. When I've just had enough, I put in my headphones and ignore the world. I'm one of those people who pay more attention to the lyrics instead of the beat. I use music as a way of feeling connected to other people. It feels good when I hear a song that describes exactly how I feel. Another reason I love music is that it is so similar to poetry but so very different at the same time. So many poems are written to cause the readers to think and interpret its meaning. Music can do that, but usually doesn't. Normally, music provides simplicity in the fact that the words clearly say what they mean. Also, when I need to let something out but don't feel like talking to anyone, I tend to write. When I started, it was all poems. But eventually it evolved. Music can allow you to say what you want to in a way you never thought possible. Music is magic. It can do more than you would ever imagine

Music is extremely important and has a purpose. It shapes our culture and society. Now this molding can have positive or negative effects depending on who you talk to. An example of when music greatly impacted society was during the Cold War era in the United States. Many music groups used their music to influence society by singing pacifism lyrics at a time when the United States was fighting a very unpopular war in Vietnam. This ant-war music helped further define the displeasure of war by the people and the US pulled out. For me personally, music serves as a medium for me to connect more with myself. I play music that I can relate to at a particular moment. In this aspect, music can impact our culture through defining what the listeners are feeling. When music relates to a lot of people it creates collectivism in our society and thus defines our culture. This was written under the influence of music. An upbeat song greatly enables my will to write a blog post late at night.

I agree on some level with almost every comment on this post. I especially like Abby's point that music, for kids, "is a way of expression that isn't hindered by society or adults." It is one public expression that is almost absolutely free (although society and capitalistic adults in record label board rooms have a lot to say about what commercial musical venture they will back and thus, about what you’ll hear).
Though I love music too, since I've been teaching for some years, music right after work can be just annoying, more racket after a cacophonous day. And when I rake the yard or go for a ride or run, I'd rather hear the air parting around my ears, the sound of sunlight on falling leaves, the bark of faraway dogs, and ice crystals forming in an October morning. To me, those sounds are even more free. They are without propagandistic or commercial schemes. They have no agenda to accomplish on me. They are like music unguided by human will, so I feel no human trying to assert his will on me, and I like that. That, to me, is freedom.
I'm interested in one other point: several comments note that music appeals to everyone, that it provides unity and builds community. But isn't there a flip side to that? One student a few years ago said that what CAUSES anger and hate is love and unity. (Think on that). If I repeat a lyric to a song by Justin Bieber, my older son will scoff and say, in a voice dripping with scorn, "You listen to Justin Bieber?"
Well, that I quote a lyric says only that some form of music is pumped into every grocery store and filling station on the planet, not that I'm a Bielieber, but the die are cast: I'm already an outsider to kool people who bang their heads to The Misfits or some Rancid spinoff, or who find some kind of meaning in Kid Cudi. My daughter has a label too: she’s a hipster, he says, because she likes Imagine Dragons and Passion Pit. So, is music just a way to judge people? A way to separate into competing factions? Why does anybody want 200 watt speakers in his car except to intrude aggressively on others’ choices and into others’ ears? If music unifies, why does every nation have a different anthem?

I believe that music is one of the most universal ways of communication. It is such a powerful thing and is used in so many differs ways
Music may bring you joy, for example if you are listening to a more upbeat rhythm it's going to bring forward that part of you that's going to make you want to get up and dance. But there are also the lyrics that have a major effect on this as well. Not many people listen carefully to the lyrics nowadays, the lyrics sometimes may have a greater effect that he tempo or the actual music. You may listen to those lyrics and you feel uplifted and joyful and have a certain sense of hope because that music and the message that was carried out to you have you such a positive effect. However music may bring you sadness as well. Not all music is all fun and happy. Music becomes a way for so many artists to release their emotions. It is like a venting session, it becomes a type of therapy for people. And when you hear those sad words and desperation it doesn't necessarily make you the happiest person. But it is still so important. Both sides of music, and all the more, are so terribly important because it allows for people to express their inner emotions freely which may be hard for some people to do, it can act as a release of all the bottled up things inside a person.
From my past experience you can tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to, and this is almost one of the greatest forms of communication because you have already learned so much about that person just through music. And music brings people together. For example I may be playing around and humming or singing a song a rehearsal for a show one day and a person I've never really met will start to sing along and that communication that just happened tells me that that person and I are similar in ways, we have things in common and who knows at could lead to a great friendship. Also, the clip we watched in class of the four men from the piano lesson sitting at the table singing that song shows a sense of unity through music. They all know that song and the meaning behind it. They feel so strongly about what they are singing because they have all experienced it and gone through it and lived it and that provides that sense of unity because of the things they have gone thorough with the work on the railroad and the difficulties.
Music would be something that I would not be able to live sanely without. My parents always tell me that I have a song for everything. I have been so greatly impacted by music that it is one of the most important things in the world to me. And I think that can be the case for anyone, just in many different ways.
Music is a way of communication, unity and the ultimate way to express emotions. It is definitely extremely important to the world.

Music is a method of expression. It represents hardships or celebration in ones life using the lyrics to reach out and connect to others with similar experiences. Slave songs were great representations of music that not only invoked feeling in the listener, but also brought them all together in their time of hardship. Music in today's perspective has some differences but is relatively the same. We use music to either excite or cheer us up when we feel upset. Some music uses its lyrics to reflect an outlook on life the writer has undergone. Writers use this as therapy and to connect to others with similar experiences. Music's purpose is to excite, relate, relieve, and to help examine our lives. Music has brought differing peoples together using lyrics as a common ground for them. Music can shape us who we are and help us cope with hardship if we can relate to those who have gone before us and expressed their pain in song.

I believe music is an important medium through which one can coney a message. Music historically has been used to pass messages of importance. Whether it be the hymns sung by the slaves during the civil war or the harmonica of Bob Dylans "Positively 4th Street", music fought for civil liberties, human rights, and justice. Personally music gets me through evryday stuggles. But more importantly music restores my faith in humanity. Just when I feel like nobody in the world cares, I can listen to Macklemores "Same Love" and realize that there are those out there who still have gumption to stand up to others.

Sorry this post is late but I just got on the blog

Music, similar to art, theater, and literature, is a form of expression. Human beings are social creatures and communication is vital to every day life. Music is nothing more than an artistic form of communication. Music has been around as long as humans have and has always served the same purpose. In the same way an artist can solidify his feelings through a painting, a musician can express themselves through music. Music varies from place to place and evolves over time according to the circumstances of the people. African tribal music and Western pop music have two very different styles but are representations of the culture of the area and those who compose it. Music is just as important as art and literature because it is a method of expression and communication that is vital to people around the world.

Personally, I love music and listen to music because of all the emotions it conjures up. Why do we listen to "oldies"? It's because it is nostalgic. Maybe it brings us back to a time when we were younger, or a time when life was more carefree. It brings us back to where we were at the time. It’s a way for us to connect memories or look back on our lives. The music we cherish is usually related to good memories or a time that is particularly sweet to us. For example, I love to read, and when I read, I listen to music. Whenever I hear a song from For King and Country’s album, Crave, I remember exactly where I was in the Hunger Games series when I heard that specific song. Whenever I hear “Where I Belong” by Building 429 I can picture my front-row view of the concert back in the summer of 2011. Whenever I hear “Confessions” by Usher, I flashback to the long car rides with my sister when I was 7. Every song you’ve heard holds meaning in your life, whether it’s a big deal or not.
However, music is for more than just enjoyment and reflection on life. It’s amazing how big of an impact music can have on your life. As cliché as it may sound, I can honestly say that music has “been there for me” when I needed it most. Music has a way of speaking to you when you don’t know what to say, or what to think. It even has a way of speaking FOR you when you’re at a loss for words. There has been countless times when I’ve been confused, or upset about something going on in my life. But, then I just happen to hear “the right song” and it’s almost like the lyrics are speaking directly to me.
I couldn’t stand to live my life without music. My life certainly would be much different without it. I think everyone’s life would be different without it, even if you don’t listen to music that often. Can you imagine watching a movie with no music in the background? You’d think, “Well, the music is in the background, so I probably wouldn’t even notice it’s gone!” Wrong. What if romantic scenes didn’t have all the slow, lovey dovey music in the background? What if the intense, action-packed scene had no upbeat music in the background? What if horror movies didn’t have creepy music in the background? Watching the movie would be a completely different experience!
Anyways, music is very important in my life, and really, the life of all people. Music affects everyone in some way, shape, or form.

I believe music is a way to convey emotions. Growing up in an African American culture i was always taught in church that music was a way to show praise, and I have believed that to this day. Music Christian wise to me is a way to be connected and worship god. Besides its Christian meaning, with me being a dancer of many years, all of my dance teachers have told new that in order to convey my story of whatever I'm dancing I must grasp every emotion that is in every beat and note of the song I am dancing too. To me, music is what makes dance meaningful to me, when're I find the perfect song that holds all the same emotions that I feel, it's like a perfect bliss. But music does not have to be paired with dance or gospel in order to be blissful, I feel that finding the right song for the right moment is simply bliss. And that is why music is so important it me, it transports me to a world of bliss at times when my world is chaos.

Music is a way for anyone to express themselves in any way they want. as a whole, music does not truly have a purpose. Its an energy that crosses every boundary, infects every soul. Even the most strict dictators allowed a portion of music to be played. Its a tool, that can raise empires and topple gods.

I often get lost in music. When at church, I know the songs so well I don't even have to think about it in order to sing. I can enjoy most any song, but i prefer a song that tells a story. These i feel I can know better than any others.

Music, whether by writing or listening, is a way to express emotions, tell stories, and connect people together. When music is shared between 2 or 200 people, a sense of community is created. It eases pain, amplifies happiness, and is always there for whoever wants it. Everybody, except for deaf people, enjoys music. Certain music makes me feel like myself when I listen to it. It's a beautiful moment when you find an artist that perfectly describes your taste. People find comfort in a steady rhythm and a filthy bass line. It's innate and doesn't have to be taught, and even though everyone indulges in it, everyone still retains their own unique musical preferences, which is why musicians can always bring something new to the table for others to enjoy, and music itself will never grow old or become outdated.

Music is both a form of communication and a means of artistic expression. Throughout history, music has communicated encrypted messages (think of the early tribal communication to slavery in the United States to the Civil Rights movement ) and has also served as a means for each generation to tell its story of what values are important through direct messages (think Beatles, Edwin Starr, Guns ‘N Roses, Pearl Jam, Eminem). Examples of music as a means of communicating a message are Edwin Starr’s “War”, a Vietnam War era protest song and Guns ‘N Roses “Civil War”. Music also serves as a means of artistic expression. The Greeks believed the muses inspired the production of music (hence the origin of the English word). The composition of rhythm, melody, harmony allow the expression of the inexpressible emotions that fill the human soul. The popularity of musical activities such Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Karaoke demonstrate the essential need within mankind to express oneself musically.

The importance of music. Music is a way to relax, take your mind off things. Music is a way to make everything a little better. When there is no one to talk to music is always there. You can always find a song that will relate to what your going through. There is always a beat that you can think too. A beat that can help you sleep at night, a song that relaxes you, or that can get you focused. Music is everything in my life. I listen to music everyday and it would be hard to go a day with out it. When I don't feel like talking the music talks for me and helps me think and get whatever of my mind. Music is everything, music is my life.
