I wasn't here on Thursday, but i had my ideas in class. A little late sorry...

Repetition through history, and a downward spiral along compared with the event of Esteban Garcia raping Pancha Garcia then Colonel Garcia, son of Pancha and Esteban, raping Alba Garcia, daughter of Esteban and Clara.

Compare and contrast the beauty of co-incidence and natural repetition through history

The irresistable feeling of being able to rebel against the forbidden.
-using the relationship of Blanca and Pedro Tercero Garcia
-Tomas' mistresses while in marriage
-Forbidden incest in 100 yrs.

(Body and Soul) Beauty of Remedios, Rebecca, and Rosa
-definition of beauty in ULOB
-(any of the girls)

Pets- Barrabas and Karenin and their affect on the protaganists of the book

Relationship between Tomas and Esteban

(views on body and Soul) Clara and Tereza

Lifestyles of Transito Soto and Sabina

The war in 100 yrs. of Solitude was of Battle of Communism and the war in ULOB was the battle against Communism.

Fidelity
-Tomas and Tereza
-Esteban Trueba and Clara
-Colonel Aureliano and War
-Franz and Sabina(ironic)
any two of them

From Chris

main idea:
journals in The House of the Spirits and 100 Years of Solitude.

Overview of Approach:
In One Hundred Years of Solitude and The House of the Spirits, the use of a journal gives the overall approach to the reader, and ties into the ending of the novel with its previous content. In One Hundred Years of Solitude, Melquiades keeps a journal with him which is later read at the end of the novel. Its writing contains one hundred years worth of information of the Buendia family, right up to the ending and the families downfall. In The House of the Spirits, Alba and other members of the family are able to piece together their families history by reading the journals left behind by Clara. Both of the characters leave a link into the past through their writing.

Proposed Thesis:

chris said...

(this is the continuation of the thesis proposal)

The use of journals exemplify and connect pieces of the two novels to symbolize the backbone and the meaning of the novels as a whole.
